‘Alight’ Exhibition and preview of new GACPS work

The group exhibition Alight, co-curated by Dr. Darryn Ansted and Simon Cox opened at the Oats Factory in Carlisle, Western Australia, on March 24.

From their website:

‘Exploring the transformation of identity in the globalised, post-national world. Seven artists – Hoda Afshar, Darryn Ansted, Nathan Beard, Ogi Naidansuren, Hitesh Natalwala, Fran Rhodes and Caitlin Woods – install artworks that respond to the pressing contemporary questions of migratory experiences, diasporic identities and postcolonial and post-communist legacies. Utilising a variety of contemporary approaches to painting, photography and installation, this geographically diverse collection of artists interrogate the ethical dimensions of the trans-national flows of people and cultures that increasingly define our globalised world.’

The exhibition debuted new works by GACPS artist Nathan Beard which will be reinterpreted for the NGV:Studio Installation at the Next Wave Festival as part of the GACPS embassy. Alight runs until 5pm, Sunday 22 April.

GACPS in Frankie Magazine

In Issue 46 of Frankie, (the March/April 2012 edition pictured above which may still be lingering on newsstands) you will find a feature on The Greater Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere on page 36.

The article was written by Sheridan Coleman, a brilliant up and coming artist and writer from Perth, Western Australia, who conducted an interview over dinner with the artists at a Mexican restaurant in December 2011.

Photography for the article was conducted by the wonderfully talented Thom Perry at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) during the artists’ recent studio residency.

Pictured below is the article for those who missed out.

GACPS Pozible Crowdfunding Initiative

The Greater Asia Co-Prosperity is an ambitious undertaking for the artists involved, and to help source funds to realise this project to it’s fullest potential we have embarked upon a crowdfunding initiative through Pozible here.

If you visit this link you will be able to see the GACPS profile, where donations may be pledged by members of the general public to help fund installation and production costs associated with the project. In return, pledges of certain donations will be rewarded by the GACPS with various rewards, as an incentive to help us reach our anticipated target. Ideally we would like to raise as much as we can through the kindness of the general public, and every cent pledged is precious, no matter how small the amount. We need to reach the magic figure of $3000 in order to benefit from the crowdfunding initiative though, and we would love to be able to reach this target through your kind donations.

The limited edition GACPS t-shirt above is a sample of the rewards being offered to people who pledge to donate funds for the project via Pozible.

We extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has pledged funds to our project so far, and encourage visitors to this page to help spread word of this funding initiative through linking the page to social networking pages and e-mailing lists.

As an added incentive, if you take the time to visit our Pozible profile you will also be able to view a short film elaborating on the concepts and expected outcomes for the GACPS project.
